Bailey Alysse

As an ever-curious multidisciplinary artist with a primary focus on painting, Bailey's work volleys between abstract and narrative figuration that leans into the surreal. Recurring elements surface across her work: intentional, often vivid color stories, playful linework & movement that mimics organic motifs, perspective-bending compositions and dreamlike symbolic logic. While each piece may have its own mood, the goal behind all of them is to invite the viewer's curiosity and imagination. She is fascinated by the mystery of an artwork continuing its own life beyond her, traveling, changing hands, sparking conversations she may never witness, becoming a story independent of its maker.

Bailey is a U.S.-born artist who loves exploring not only through creativity, but through lived experience. She currently resides in Porto, Portugal, expanding her artistic practice across paintings, murals, and sculpture. She is also actively building a network of creatives, hosting social events and curating inspired connections.

The Peace That Follows — oil on canvas painting by Bailey Alysse Visual Artist and Muralist, figurative original art

My first figurative oil piece after only having created acrylic abstract pieces. This piece required time, patience and above all, a mindset that my own abilities could be beyond my previously conceived limitations. I fell in love with painting the softness of each petal, and the subject's relaxed energy. This piece also allowed me to realize my attraction to chiaroscuro style works, allowing the vivid colors I love to pop against the contrast of the deeper backgrounds.

Coming or Going? — oil on canvas painting by Bailey Alysse Visual Artist and Muralist, original art

I had a vision and had no idea what it meant, and only that I needed to paint it. Throughout this whole process I experimented with new techniques and working on my first large format unstretched canvas. This allowed me to feel liberated but still devoted to whatever message the art was asking me to communicate. When the piece was completed, I realized the narrative is multilayered and invites the viewer to determine their own meaning.

Carnaval — acrylic on canvas painting by Bailey Alysse Visual Artist and Muralist, vivid color abstract figurative

The creative process isn't always straight and narrow. Sometimes when we take ourselves too seriously, we lose the plot. This piece was a reminder to self to do it for the joy, for the celebration that is the act of creativity.

The Blues — acrylic on canvas painting by Bailey Alysse Visual Artist and Muralist, original art

This piece demonstrates that your internal narrative can drastically affect the way you interact with the world. When I originally painted this piece, I was in a heavy headspace, and I could feel that weight when viewing the completed work. Years later, with a change of perspective, I was able to view the painting and instead felt the joy of exploring and how even in the rain, color can shine through.

In many ways this commission was a dream of a first mural project. The objective was to help embellish a wall shared in a neighborhood parking lot that was previously a bit of an eyesore. The background color of the wall had been pre-determined, but beyond that I had creative freedom. This allowed me to test out spray alongside my brush — and to have fun with the concept. The autumn sunflowers felt like a fun way to complement the neighborhood, while adding a bit of whimsy with a celestial ribbon that would fragment into abstract geometric shapes. Working at this scale on an outdoor mural presents its own set of challenges, but the reward of the opportunity to contribute art to a public space was a huge personal accomplishment and very gratifying — inspiring me to expand my visual arts scope to more indoor and outdoor murals in Porto and beyond.
